Project Description
The Canalejas Complex is a set of seven buildings from the early and mid-20th century of great architectural and historical value located near Puerta del Sol in the heart of Madrid. These buildings are joined and renovated to house a mixed-use program for the following services:
A Four Seasons five-star grand luxury hotel with 215 rooms, high-standing residences linked to the hotel service, a modern shopping centre, restaurants, exclusive offices and an underground car park with a capacity of 450 spaces.
The project maintains the facades of the existing buildings, and integrates some interior elements of value in the new construction. The proposed new facades combine an individual reading of each building, with a unitary design, typical of a unique project. The proposal is modulated around a large patio that communicates the different uses and allows the spaces to be provided with the necessary ventilation and lighting.
Both the architectural proposal and the technical installations have been articulated in pursuit of a high level of sustainability and eco-efficiency, with the aim of achieving LEED-CS Gold environmental certification.
JG Ingenieros is a Silver member of the USGBC and has among its technicians LEED accredited professionals (LEED APs) who lead the coordination of the entire LEED certification process for this project, including the performance of energy simulation in accordance with the American standard ASHRAE 90.1 .
