Centre Hospitalier, Hospital Extension

LuxembourgHealthcare and Lifesciences

Project Description:

The Centre Hospitalier Luxembourg CHL is one of the biggest hospital facilities in Luxembourg. In 2016, GL&Ass was charged within a design team with the architects Wörner Traxler Richter/ m3 architects for the total design of M&E installations (excluding kitchen and medical equipment). The predesign and basic design were completed in 2021 and the detailed design continues in 2022.

The CHL plans to build a new 464-bed hospital on the existing CHL site in Luxembourg, as well as to modernise and convert some of the existing buildings.

The CHL building consists of the Hospital Municipal (HM, opened in 1976) and the extensions of annex 1 (2005) and annex 2 (2002). The new building, New Building Center (NBC), is part of the new national planning for hospital care in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Four nursing stations are arranged on each of the nursing floors. This organisationally highly efficient double ward structure creates maximum flexibility in terms of staff deployment, patient allocation and shared resources. The stations are each arranged around two 30 by 30 meter courtyards.

The patient rooms are all oriented towards the outside along a string of pearls. This arrangement enables an unobstructed view of the landscape from all patient rooms. In addition, ward capacities can be expanded in one direction or the other along the string of pearls. Natural light reaches the lower floors of the house via the large courtyards in combination with the reduced overall building height.
