Project description
Located in Vaasa, Finland, Wärtsilä’s research, product development and production centre Smart Technology Hub was finished in 2021. With the total investment amounting to EUR 230 million, Wärtsilä Smart Technology Hub develops environmentally savvy technology in sustainable facilities.
Granlund’s designers helped Wärtsilä reach the ambitious eco-efficiency goals of the project. As Wärtsilä and Granlund have already worked on hundreds of projects, the cooperation was effortless and efficient.
Our Input
Granlund was the project designer of the Smart Technology Hub. Granlund was responsible for the building services engineering and preparing the sustainability certification, BREEAM, rating. Granlund also acted as the Big Room coordinator of the project.
Key Features
The solutions used at the Smart Technology Hub reflect Wärtsilä’s focus on environmental values. The Hub has solar panels producing clean, renewable electricity. Energy produced by the marine engines tested at the Hub is recovered and used at the property.
The facilities feature a range of intelligent systems and automation. The extremely high cleanliness requirements in the research and production facilities are achieved for instance with air filtration systems, appropriate pressure rations and air volumes.
