Villa Flora Art Museum

SwitzerlandCultural and SportsPublic Buildings

Project description

The Villa Flora is the former private residence of the collector couple Hedy and Arthur Hahnloser Bühler, whose outstanding art collection was opened to the public in 1995.

The listed building is to be carefully renovated and extended to convert it into the third arm of the Winterthur Art Museum.

Key features

The museum’s exhibition rooms are to be located on the ground floor and 1st floor. These will be ventilated with a partial air conditioning system.

The rooms for administration and museum education are located on the 2nd floor and are naturally ventilated through the windows. The newly constructed pavilion will be used as a café/bistro or as a function room. The coachman's house, which is located on the same plot, will be detached from the heat generation in the villa and receive its own district heating connection. The villa’s district heating system is being renewed and the cast-iron radiators restored and supplemented with modern radiators.

Our input

We designed the energy concept, which required balancing the particular heating, cooling and ventilation needs of an art gallery with the challenging requirements of renovating listed buildings.
