Project Description
Västlänken is a project in Gothenburg carried out to strengthen public transport in the city, but above all in the region. Västlänken creates conditions for more and longer commuter and regional trains to pass through Gothenburg. It includes an underground railway station with four tracks, a double-track tunnel, as well as bridges and entrances. The project stretches over approximately 1,800 meters. The three new stations provide more options for passengers to get on and off the trains, and it becomes possible to connect train traffic in western Sweden in a better way. In connection with the new stations, new transport hubs for public transport and other travel in Gothenburg are also being created.
Västlänken is carried out on behalf of the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket). Västlänken consists of six parts with separate contracts:
E01 Olskroken
E02 Central Station
E03 Kvarnberget
E04 Haga
E05 Korsvägen
E06 BEST
The total size of the Västlänken project includes 8 km of railway and 6.6 km of tunnel under Gothenburg.
Our Input
E02 is being carried out by NCC. Since 2023, Bengt Dahlgren has contributed with installation management, installation coordination, and SAT2 testing management. Bengt Dahlgren has reviewed and updated construction documents. The design work has included finalizing construction and as-built documentation for all installations. The assignment has also included FAT1 as well as documentation.
Our Input
E02 under Central Station contains many systems within each discipline, which has been a major challenge in terms of technology, system understanding, and coordination. The assignment has been carried out under significant time pressure, and design work has taken place simultaneously with construction, which has required a high degree of communication and coordination between design and production.
