PostNL

The NetherlandsOffices and Workplace

Project Description

PostNL takes care of the Dutch mail distribution. For this purpose, in the early 90s, mail distribution centers were set up across the country.
At the time, the buildings were equipped with conventional gas boilers and chillers. This equipment has reached the end of its service life and needs to be replaced. Smits van Burgst has conducted research on the possibilities for replacing it in an energy-efficient manner on 5 locations.

Our Input

Smits van Burgst's assignment consisted of developing a sustainable concept for heat and cold generation. The starting point was to leave the existing delivery installation intact as much as possible. With the help of simulation calculations, the most efficient configuration has been determined.

Subsequently, the designs were made and contract documents were drawn up. Smits van Burgst supervised the tender, the execution and delivery.

Key Features

The applied heat pumps supply the heating in the building to an outside temperature of 5 oC. below 5oC, the high-efficiency gas boilers take over the heat generation.

The result of this hybrid solution is a reduction of the gas consumption by more than 60%.
