New BASF Laboratory Building A330 Schwarzheide

LuxembourgTransport

Project description

With the new construction of Laboratory Building A330, BASF GmbH is expanding its research and development infrastructure at its site in the Lusatia region. The three-storey replacement building, with a  gross floor area of approximately 6,770 m², will provide state-of-the-art laboratory and office workplaces for around 150 staff members. In addition to traditional analytical laboratories, the building will also house areas for process and systems optimisation, process analytics, and hands-on vocational training. The building comprises approximately 2,400 m² of laboratory space and around 960 m² of office space, the latter featuring an open-plan usage concept. In addition to fulfilling functional and organisational requirements, the design placed a strong emphasis on energy-efficient building services.

Our Input

As part of the project, ZWP was commissioned with the planning of the heating, cooling, ventilation, and sanitary systems, as well as the lowvoltage electrical systems and the photovoltaic installation. The objective was to develop an energy-efficient and reliable technical infrastructure tailored to the specific requirements of a laboratory environment. The thermal supply concept is based on an air-to-water heat pump to cover base loads, in combination with concrete core activation. For peak loads, a district heating connection and a chiller were integrated into the  system design. The ventilation system, with a total air volume of approximately 120,000 m³/h, was tailored to meet the diverse demands of the laboratory and office areas. In terms of electrical engineering, the building’s main low-voltage distribution board was integrated into the site‘s existing power infrastructure.
