Project Description
The listed Lyngby City Hall, built in 1939-1942, has undergone an extensive restoration and interior refurbishment. Many earlier alterations to the original layout have been reversed, and the city hall has been modernised with a flexible layout that supports a modern workplace and can be adapted to organisational change. Client: Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality. Architect: ERIK Arkitekter. Contractor: Jakon A/S.
Our Input
Søren Jensen covered all engineering disciplines: structural engineering, electrical and ICT, plumbing and ventilation, fire safety and BIM. The scope comprised preliminary investigations, including analyses and destructive testing that revealed the need for a thorough renovation of the facades, and project management. Søren Jensen was also responsible for internal project management, design through all design phases, tender, project follow-up and site supervision, as well as commissioning and handover. The project was delivered as a general contract.
Key Features
The load-bearing concrete and reinforcement in the facades were rebuilt to ensure long durability, and insulation was added to protect the concrete and improve the indoor climate. The marble facade panels were cleaned and remounted, with damaged panels replaced. Ventilation is integrated in a new service wall with acoustic surfaces that follows the building's curved plan. Ceilings were restored to their original height, and fire doors were upgraded in harmony with the original architecture.
