LUMI Supercomputer

FinlandData Centres

Project description

LUMI is Europe’s most powerful and the world’s 5th fastest supercomputer. It is located in the data centre of the IT Centre for Science (CSC) in Kajaani, Finland. LUMI has ultimate computing power: 375 petaflops (375 times 1,000 trillion floating point operations per second).  The organisation responsible for operating the computer is the LUMI (Large Unified Modern Infrastructure) consortium, which in addition to Finland includes: Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Norway, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland.

Our Input
Granlund has been involved in different phases of the project. From preliminary design phase to actual design and project management. Granlund's tasks have included HVAC, electrical and building automation design, as well as lighting and audio visual design. Also project management and construction management.

Key Features
LUMI has won several data centre awards. It represents the cutting edge of global data centre design with direct liquid cooling and waste heat recovery. Approximately 80% of waste heat can be transferred to the regional district heating network. The LUMI data centre is extremely reliable and low-carbon as the building itself as well as the surrounding infrastructure were initially designed for industrial use.
