Fondation Beyeler

SwitzerlandCultural and Sports

Project Description

Since its foundation by the collector and gallerist couple Ernst and Hildy Beyeler in 1997, the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen near Basel has become one of the most visited art museums in Switzerland. The museum of modern and contemporary art is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. It is located in an English-style park with a historic villa, old trees and lily ponds. The museum building, designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano, fits elegantly into the cultural landscape and offers wonderful views of the park, cornfields, grazing cows and sheep, and the vineyards at the foothills of the Black Forest. Since its opening, more than 7 million people have visited the museum, half of them from Switzerland, the other from its neighbouring countries and from all over the world.

Our input

Recently, the foundation acquired the adjacent park for an extension designed by Swiss architect Peter Zumthor and Waldhauser + Hermann are involved with the MEP design.

We feel privileged to consult the Fondation in various matters, one of which is optimising the energy consumption.

Key features

So far, we have reprogrammed the air handling controls from scratch. Early figures suggest a significant decline in power consumption – an excellent justification for continuing down the path we decided to follow.
