Project Description
The current expansion and renovation project of Gare do Oriente, awarded by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) in 2024 to Santiago Calatrava Architects & Engineers, represents an investment to enable the development of high-speed rail in the country. The plan includes the extension of the station capacity from 9 to 11 railway tracks, the rehabilitation of metallic and concrete structures, the upgrade of MEP systems (air conditioning & ventilation, lighting systems with LED technology, safety & security, acoustic& vibrations, hydraulic) and the construction of a new railway viaduct, aiming to increase both capacity and functionality of the station for the coming years.
