Description

The Merck location in Darmstadt was gradually developed from a production building to a technology and knowledge campus. The heart of this change is the Innovation Center with a new working environment. The central, spacious reception is positioned in the new Innovation Center, with project areas diagonally opposite each other. The project areas are interconnected via airspaces. In addition to a library, a café and various meeting rooms, the project areas also accommodate the work spaces for the international research and innovation teams. The building opened its doors in spring 2018.

Input

Technical building services: Planning and supervision, sanitary systems, heating systems, ventilation and air conditioning systems, electrical systems, communications systems, conveyance systems, building control systems, media technology.

Unique / Key Features

The requirements for the planning of the technical building services was to accommodate almost a maximum of technical building services in the areas, but, at the same time to ensure the flexible use of the areas. All areas are fully air conditioned, fresh air is introduced via source air outlets, which are integrated into the floor, with additional heating and cooling ceilings. The efficiency of the air conditioning systems in connection with the sun protection systems could be proved successfully within last summer. In addition to the heating and cooling ceilings, the ceiling systems also include loudspeakers, fire detectors, WLAN-antennas, sprinklers, control boxes for sun and glare protection, retractable beamer and last but not least luminaires. In addition to the presence and daylight control, the lights are able to individually adjust the light temperature to different times of the day (human-centric light). The lights are controlled and supplied with power via a PoE structure (Power over Ethernet), which concentrates the lighting control on floor-by-floor servers (Engines).
