The Forum shopping centre is situated in central Helsinki. The building was completed and opened in 1985 and it serves more than 14 million customers every year. The shopping centre has continuously expanded into the surrounding buildings.


From 2009 to 2015, Granlund was responsible for designing the HVAC, building automation and fire extinguishing systems for the large-scale renovation and expansion project.

Unique / Key Features

As part of the project, the building services for the entire mass of property were modernised to become centralised and energy-efficient. The result was a 17 per cent saving in energy costs between 2009 and 2013. From the beginning of 2010 to August 2013, EUR 730,000 had been saved on energy costs, of which district heating accounted for about 24 per cent and electricity made up 76 per cent. According to estimates, almost EUR 2 million has been saved by 2016.
