Telia Helsinki Data Centre

FinlandData Centres

Project Description

With IT capacity of 24 MW, the Telia Helsinki Data Centre is the largest open data centre in Finland and the Nordics. It was completed in 2018 – on schedule and surpassing quality standards. Granlund was responsible for the detail design and commissioning of the data centre.

Besides Telia itself – one of the major ICT companies in Finland and the leading TV company in the Nordics – it is used by Telia’s customers and partners. The data centre focuses on security, both physically and in terms of cyber threats.

Our Input

Granlund completed MEP Design, HVAC design, building automation and electrical design as well as tele and security design. Granlund was also in charge of commissioning.

The design was done together with a Dutch engineering company Royal Haskoning DHV.

Key Features

Running around the clock, data centres consume a vast amount of energy. In Telia’s data centre, emphasis has been put on reducing the carbon footprint, which is verified by certifications such as CEEDA.

For instance, the data centre has an efficient heat recovery system. The design enables the full reuse of the heat from ICT production. As the capacity increases, heat is captured and recycled to the district heating network around Helsinki.
